Hey everyone, Erik Rivera here. Last night was AMAZING! We did it! All the people, celebrities, families & groups that came down to the Smart Power Lab in Times Square these last 2 months, made the lighting of the 2010 numerals possible.

Lighting up the Power Lab

I got down to Times Square around 5:45 pm and the festivities were in full swing. Millions of people were already gathered around the stages and spanned from 42nd Street to 59th Street for the World Famous New Year’s Eve Ball Drop. There was an electricity in the air and I’m not just saying that because Duracell was a part of it… the people were excited to be a part of this event.

The performances began at 8 pm and shortly thereafter so did the snow/rain/sleet… but it didn’t matter. The people weren’t going to let a little precipitation get in the way of a GOOD TIME! They kept on partying until midnight.

At 10:15 pm I found myself on top of 1 Times Square where the World Famous Ball Drop takes place, to do an interview with the Times Square Alliance LiveStream co-hosts. It was a fun time to spread the word of all the great things we did at the Smart Power Lab and to thank all the people who came down and supported.

I’m not going to lie – once the countdown began, I got gooseb**ps and even more so when I saw the lighting of the 2010! It was an experience I’ll never forget, not only because of all the great people I met but because I know that my pedaling helped us reach our goal. Happy New Year!

2009’s Breakout Star Helps Power 2010!

It’s a big day at the Smart Power Lab. Golden Globe-nominated actress Gabourey Sidibe visited the Lab to mark reaching the power generation goal. That’s right – we did it, thanks to you! We’ve collected more than 32,000 watt hours of energy on the Duracell Power Rovers. This power takes center stage tomorrow night in Times Square when it will be used to light up the 2010 numerals during the New Year’s Eve ceremony.

Of course, meeting our power goal is fantastic. Celebrating it with the breakout star of 2009 is even better. Gabourey stole hearts in the movie “Precious,” and now she’s collecting nominations for her performance this awards season. But despite her recent success, this rising star is incredibly grounded. Lab Correspondent Erik Rivera got to chat with Gabourey while she was at the Lab. She said it’s extremely surreal being surrounded by so many celebrities at awards shows. In 2010, she’s looking forward to meeting two celebrities in particular – Justin Timberlake and JC Chasez from N’ Sync. 2010 looks like it will be a very good year for Gabourey, so it’s fitting she helped us light up the new year on a Power Rover.

Can You Keep Up?

Wondering what’s the hottest invitation this holiday season? From the looks of it, it’s a visit to the Smart Power Lab. Not even a jam-packed social schedule and the premier of the fourth season of “Keeping up with the Kardashians” could keep Kim and Khloe from riding the Power Rovers. The glamorous girls were eager to help light up the 2010 numerals. They even pedaled the Power Rovers in some serious heels, proving it may not be so easy to keep up with the Kardashian sisters. But you can still try. Stop by the Power Lab and take a spin on a Power Rover yourself. Sky-high shoes optional.

“Going for Good” at the Charmin Restrooms

Our neighbors downstairs at the Charmin Restrooms are not only providing the most fantastic bathrooms available in Times Square, they’re also having a little fun and doing some good while helping visitors “enjoy the go.” Comedian and actor Mario Cantone recently stopped by the Charmin Restrooms to show off five snazzy celebrity-designed toilet seat covers, which include everything from bright colors to glitter and feathers. The covers were designed by Cantone, Mario Lopez, Martina McBride, Sherri Shepherd and ‘The Go Team,’ a group of five Charmin Amba**adors hired to work in the Charmin Restrooms this holiday season.

Why such fancy toilet seat covers? It’s all for a good cause. For every person that visits the Charmin Restrooms through December 31, Charmin will donate one dollar to one of five charities – Broadway Cares, Boys & Girls Club of America, loveisrespect, National Teen Dating Abuse Helpline, The Harlem Children’s Zone and Angels in Waiting. In total, they’ll give up to $50,000 to these organizations this holiday season.

Anyone who’s ever been struck by the urge to go while stuck in Times Square knows it’s not the most bathroom-friendly location. That all changes each holiday season, when Charmin opens its famous restrooms – 20 clean, deluxe, ADA compliant, family friendly and fully staffed restrooms that are cleaned after every use. So stop by the Charmin Restrooms to “enjoy the go” and do some good at the same time. They’re right below the Smart Power Lab and open Sunday – Wednesday from 10AM to 9PM and Thursday – Saturday 10AM to 11PM until Thursday, December 31.

Welcome to the Charmin Restrooms

Jane meets the numerals at the Lab

Hi there! It’s Jane Condon. Today is a perfect 10 day! The “1″ and the “0″ of the 2010 numerals arrived  by NY pedicab in Times Square. These powerful lights (using 80% less energy) will be on display in the Duracell Smart Power Lab for the next few days. Then they will be put on top of the One Times Square building, next to the ball.

Here Come the NumeralsLighting up the Power LabWaiting for the Numerals

I met my colleagues Wali Collins and Erik Rivera at the Duracell Smart Power Lab to greet the numerals as they arrived. Check out what we thought of them.

Make your own tradition. Come down every year to help power the numbers. This new decade is about us. It’s about hope.

And if you power the Rovers, it’s about fun!

Wali Reports What’s Up at the Lab

Hey my people. It’s me, Wali Collins, with some updates about what went down at the Smart Power Lab during my most recent visit.

I hooked up with my colleague Erik Rivera and we had a lot of fun with folks from all over the country – from Staten Island to Alabama to California – working them Power Rovers. We had a great time chatting and even talked them into taking some pics with us!

I loved seeing people walking in with these confused looks on their faces but, once they found out that they could light up Times Square on New Year’s Eve, it was on baby! People didn’t want to get off of the Rovers. Everybody’s taking pictures, recording videos on their cellphones, texting their friends to come to the Smart Power Lab and join in on the good time. Some families are making this their holiday tradition. They ice skate at Rockefeller Center. Catch the show at Radio City. And then drop off some watts at the Duracell Smart Power Lab. Kinda warms my heart. Awwww.

And just so you know, when you come down and you may have to wait to jump on the Rover. That might be a good news because there are so many other things you can do down at the Smart Power Lab. You can play your favorite game on Xbox. There are computers at the ready for you to log on to FaceBook, Twitter or MySpace. You can take a picture in front of the replica of the 2010 numerals. You can even recharge your cell phone, camera or iPod.

So come by the the free Smart Power Lab and be a part of lighting up 2010, literally. Hope to see you soon!

People Power!

We’ve reached 42% of our power collection goal, have you pedaled yet? Come down to the Smart Power Lab, be a part of the excitement and help light up New Year’s Eve! 30 Rock’s Judah Friedlander jumped at the chance to ride a Power Rover, now it’s your turn.

To add to the excitement, if you stop by tomorrow not only can you pedal but you can also watch as the official 2010 numerals - yes, those famous numbers that the entire world will watch when the ball drops in Times Square – are delivered to the Smart Power Lab where you can see them up close and in person. They’ll be at the Lab until they are taken to their final resting stop on New Year’s Eve. Now that’s too cool to miss!

Live from the Lab with Wali

Hey people it’s me Wali Collins.

Lab Correspondent Wali Colins Keeps 'Em Pedaling and Laughing

30 Rock's Judah Friedlander and Katrina Bowden Rock a Power Rover

Just recapping my time at the Power Lab. You never know who’s gonna stop by. For starters, my good friend from 30 Rock Judah Friedlander brought Katrina Bowden with him to sit on the Rovers and give the 2010 numerals some juice. Judah told me he could’ve given enough power for the next 3 years but he didn’t want to hog up all of the fun. Katrina Bowden was a good sport. She let Judah sit behind her as she contributed some energy.

Dancing with the Stars’ Kym Johnson wasn’t really prepared to pedal the Rover in her 5 inch heels, however she did a very impressive job revving up the wattage. Also from Dancing with the Stars, Maksim Chmerkovskiy made his mark by adding a much appreciated surge of power to the numerals.

And lastly, I had the pleasure of chatting with Dream Girl at the Apollo Syesha Mercado as she pedaled and suggested that President Obama should come to the Power Lab. Good idea Syesha. Can you believe another Dream Girl came by? That’s right, Anika Noni-Rose from the Oscar winning film, Dream Girls stopped by to say h***o and dropped off some power. Anika is currently starring as the voice of Princess Tiana in Disney’s Princess and the Frog.

It was really nice to see the celebs come by and literally give a little bit of themselves for an incredible cause. And you can too. I’ll be looking for you.

How Ya Doin!

And the special guests keep stopping by! After talking up the Smart Power Lab on her talk show, host Wendy Williams had to try out a Power Rover herself. We give her a big thumbs up for pedaling long enough to generate 1 watt hour, how much power do you think you can generate? Talk about walking the talk, thanks Wendy!
